IMPORTANT INFO FOR THE 2010/2011 SEASON:
Nakkertok Racing Program 2010/2011
Nakkertok Competition Stages 2010/2011
Nakkertok Ski Club has a long tradition of developing junior athletes in the club environment and preparing them for competition at the district, university, provincial and national level. This has been accomplished by creating a program, based on the Cross Country Canada (CCC) Athlete Development Model, that provides a set of training activities in a periodized calendar, and does so in a way that is both fun and socially appealing to young skiers at all stages of development.
Each athlete is encouraged to set their own individual goals and the coaches aspire to deliver a co-ordinated program to help the athletes achieve their personal best no matter what their level of performance. Goals are also established at the Team level, and by participating in the Racing Program each athlete agrees not only to support the goals of the Team, but to assist their peer athletes to do the same.
This commitment to the Team not only leads to better individual and group performance, but helps to build respect for other athletes, coaches, race officials and all of the many volunteers that help to make our sport possible.
To participate on the Nakkertok Team we have, over time, developed a number of mutual expectations that have proven to be successful in terms of keeping athletes, coaches, parents and administrators motivated to do their best and to support the Racing Program.
As an Athlete we would expect that you will agree to:
-
Attend at least one scheduled Nakkertok practice per week (for Junior Racers, we recommend two practices per week to achieve a competitive level of performance)
-
Communicate regularly with Program Coaches
-
Participate with Nakkertok at District Events (e.g., National Capital District (NCD) time trials, camps, and races, and Provincial- and National-level events where appropriate)
-
Apply for your CCC/Provincial Racing License (applies only to Junior Racers)
-
Read, sign and abide by the Athlete’s Code of Conduct (Jr Racers) or Pledge (RR)
-
Fill out the Nakkertok Athlete’s Medical Form (Jr Racers)
As a Nakkertok Coach we expect that you will agree to:
-
Attend at least one scheduled Nakkertok practice per week
-
Communicate regularly with Athletes and Parents
-
Either lead one of the Racing Teams or assist the designated Nakkertok Head Coach at various District, Provincial and National events as appropriate
-
Abide by the Coaches Code of Conduct
-
Continuously improve your coaching skills
As the Parent of an Athlete, we expect that you will agree to:
-
Support your son or daughter in the pursuit of their goals
-
Support the Racing Team by arranging/assisting in team travel/logistics to both local and away races as appropriate
-
Organize and/or help with social/educational functions
-
Work to support Racing Program initiatives such as fundraising, promotional activities (e.g., New Members Night), team clothing, etc.
-
Pay your Nakkertok membership, program fees and trip fees in a timely manner
As Program Administrators we expect that you will agree to:
-
Support the Coaches in the delivery of the Program
-
Communicate regularly with Coaches, Parents and Athletes about those issues that have to do with Program delivery
-
Administer the financial details of running the Racing Program, including providing guidance on the set-up and structuring of program fees and providing the coaches with an annual budget
-
Liase with the Nakkertok Board of Directors on all issues relating to the delivery of the Racing Program
We understand that the world is not – and cannot be – perfect, and that at any given time it may not be possible to meet all of these expectations. At this stage all of our program administrators and coaches are volunteers and have personal lives too. We recognize that all of our athletes have academic commitments as well as other extracurricular interests that they need to pursue to maintain a healthy balance in their lives. And we are mindful that our athlete’s parents all have work, family and other obligations that must be juggled to accommodate the skiing interests of their son or daughter. When a situation arises where we are not able to meet one another’s expectations we encourage you to talk to the appropriate person (Coach, Racing Director, Club President) and voice your concerns.
If you have any question or concerns about the details of the program or the expectations of the various participants, please feel free to contact any of the following:
