Ski Patrol for Learn To Ski LessonsNakkertok ski patrollers are trained (and re-certified every year) by the Canadian Ski Patrol. Like the ski instructors, we are volunteers. Our mandate is to patrol during Learn-to-Ski classes and during races. There will be three patrollers on duty from 9-noon on Saturdays and from 1-4 on Sunday afternoons. One of the patrollers will in in the vicinity of the Barn and can be contacted by the other two on the trail. The patroller on "Barn-Duty", if needed will drive skidoo + toboggan (and backboard) to incident site. Our method of communication is by cell phone (a main number will be posted on the Ski Patrol whiteboard outside the Barn). Ski Instructors should add the following ski patrol number to their own phones:613-893-NAKK (893-6255)
We are trained to handle life-threatening emergencies, spinal injuries, hypothermia/frost bite, broken bones and to use AEDs and oxygen (although this equipment will only be available during races). We also have training in finding lost skiers! There is a helpful envelop (to be opened only in case of missing persons) located next to the LTS mail slots if needed by members or instructors. We are also in the process of setting up a "safety bulletin board" in the Barn, which will include useful info. for members.
We will have patrollers rostered from Jan 2-March 7, although the only time there will NOT be a patrol is during the weekend of Jan 30-31 when the LTS is at North (we'll need 12 patrollers for the Easterns race and can't commit people to North also).
Please let us know if you have ideas or suggestions for the patrol.
Have a great Christmas,
Jenifer Cepella (Patrol Leader) |
