Racing Rabbits is a physical literacy (agility, balance and coordination) and ski skill development
Ages 9 to 11 year old.
It introduces 9 to 11 year olds to the fun of racing and training to race. Developmentally, it is prior to the onset of the growth spurt. The emphasis at this stage is on team-oriented games and activities to develop competence in the basic skills of both classic and skate skiing. Participants are encouraged to race locally in a fun, supportive atmosphere. Athletes may be selected to participate in age appropriate provincial championships.
Requirements:
Participants need to be comfortable skiing continuously for an hour as well as have basic classic and skate skiing abilities equal to level 3 Jackrabbit (outlined on the Racing Rabbit website).
Program Specifics:

Coaching is provided primarily by certified volunteer coaches with professional coaching as a resource.

Two training sessions per week – Wednesday night and Saturday morning, September 15 to the end of March

Dryland training (hikes, games, relays, fitness stations, scavenger hunts)

On snow training (games, relays, scavenger hunts, skill stations, races, loppets)

Additional program activities (special events, social events, etc.)

Coaching support at races
Contribution:

parents contribute significantly to the season’s activities - coaching, registration, safety, special events, Norams coordination, etc.

Racers are expected to participate in trail clearing and facility clean-up and learning about the cooperative nature of Nakkertok
