TWAN [July 26]

Hi gang,

Wow, we had two pretty hard, really excellent practices this week.
I was really really happy to see several improvements in peoples strength and technique.
A big pat on the back to those who have been working hard at following their training program. It's awesome to see the hard work paying off.
Another round of kudos for those who rollerskied the entire parkway loop for the first time Sunday. Talk about a gold star moment!

Things you need to know this week;
We will be starting Tuesday night practices as of August 3rd.
Yes, that means there will be three Nakkertok practices per week.
Next Sunday I will send a big email out with noy only your training plans for the month of August but also practice locations for Tuesday nights.
We will continue to have practice on Thursday nights at the Arboretum and Sunday morning at p8 but the Tuesday locations will vary.

Also, Midget training day is August 7th! If you are a midget this is a chance for you to participate in a fun, low key day long adventure with Pav and other fun coaches.
More information will follow but please mark it on your calenders now.

Finally,
Next Sunday (August 1) we will be transitioning to runners again. Make sure you bring them and check the whiteboard at 8am.

Cheers,
-Pav

Hello parents and athletes alike,

NOTICE: THERE WILL BE NO PRACTICE THURSDAY JULY 1- CANADA DAY

Check your email for this weeks training plan.
This week we are decreasing the volume of hours but increasing the intensity.
What that basically means is you are doing less, but it's going to be harder.
DO-NOT-SKIP-YOUR-STRENGTH
If you only do 1 workout this week (not recommended) make sure it's Mondays.
Parents, jump in there and get the strength workout done with your kids!!
It can be a great motivator for both of you and your athlete [and you will reap the rewards of a toned stomach and ripped arms!]

In other news, the Midget Training Day previously scheduled for July has been moved to August 7th.
Nakkertokers!

A reminder about the NCD camp coming up this July 23, 24th and 25th right here in Ottawa for athletes ages 14-17.

This is a great opportunity for athletes to either have their first 'training camp' experience or further their ski experience repertoire.
Not only will athletes benefit physically, this camp is is another great step in their development as independent, high functioning athletes.

This camp is an especially good opportunity for those athletes who are busy participating in other sports during the summer but may still like to take advantage of a weekend of summer ski training.

The registration deadline is July 5th. We don't need a cheque in hand by then, just an email with an intent to register. Please see the attached camp registration form and schedule of events for more information.

Feel free to email either Kieran Jones ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) or myself if you have any other question.

On the docket this week;

#1- We are looking for a parent to volunteer as the Safety Coordinator over the summer.
This parent typically organizes the schedule of Sunday morning bicycle safety people and ensures they have a first aid kit.
Once we have a Safety Coordinator we can start recruiting parents to actually help be on safety patrol.
Please email me you think you might be able to take on this task.

#2 OWL CAMP!
I've been mentioning to several of the athletes over the past three weeks that they might be interested in participating in Owl Camp this year.
Owl is a wicked fun training camp Nakkertok puts on every year that combines rollerskiing, running and water sports. Athletes carpool up to Owl, camp over for the three nights and have food prepared for them by the Owl staff [a highlight for sure].
This year it is open to athletes who are 14+. I recommend it as it is a great first training camp opportunity.
The dates for Owl this year are Sunday June 27th to June 30th.
The cost is $160 which includes all meals while we are at Owl as well as the use of their facilities.
Please make the checks out to Nakkertok and give them to Coach Mike or Pav. We will be collecting checks this week only, so Sunday at practice is your last day to hand your check. The plan is to leave for owl after practice on Sunday June 27th and depart Owl at 4:00pm on June 30th. The Nakkertok trailer will be available to transport equipment, but athletes will need to find their own transportation to and from the camp. There is transportation available with the support crew (Coaches Pav, Mike and Kieran and Brian Foley) on a first come first serve basis.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask me!

#3 NCD Camp
We still need a parent to help organize the NCD camp happening in August!
This will be a NCD wide camp offered to athletes between the ages of 14 and 17.
Athletes will be expected to sort out their own transportation issues to and from training but we do need someone to help book accommodations, meals and sort out some after training activities.
Please let me know ASAP if you are interested in helping out.

I believe that is all from me for now,

Cheers,
-Pav
