This Week at Nakkertok #4

E-mail Print PDF
Hi all,
Phewph, glad we got that cold rainy day practice out of the way.
From now it will be nothing but blue skies! [this is not a promise that comes with a money back guarantee].

A few things on the docket this week;

#1- This Tuesday a great event, one in the Beaver Chase race series. This is a super fun, low key trail run.
The race starts at 6/l30pm but registration opens at 5:30. The cost is $5. This event is on your training plan for this week! More information can be found at the following website.

#2- We are looking for a parent volunteer coordinator for the NCD camp Nakkertok will be hosting the first weekend of August. If you are interested in filling your volunteer requirements or are eager to take on the task please email me.

#3- The Midget Training Day is coming up (Saturday July 10). This event is supplementary to our regular weekend practice and is open to all midget aged athletes. If you think you might be interested please email Nathalie Gilbert at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

That's all for now!

Practices This Weekend

E-mail Print PDF

Saturday Practice @ P9 :
Let's meet at P9 at around 8:45am (not at P6 as indicated previously -- -my fault). This will allow the younger T2T athletes taking part in the Cookiebeiner to register at 8:45am and take off at 9:00am. It looks there will only be few coaches at this practice so we may need to grab some parent volunteers to come along with us. Pray that Environment Canada is wrong!

Sunday Skimeister @ Nakk North: It looks there will only be Coach Paul at the Skimeister for the T2T. Parents: please help him start to build the jumps or with anything he needs. There may be a possibility for some folks to go for a ski @ Nakk North. Please bring a desert, appetizer, fruit or veggie to share. There will be a few BBQs with tube-steaks (hot dogs). Please register by adding your name and particulars at this link: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Apw3FHSNkltydGdFU2M5bzlmZHEySmlNTE43Q0NLbUE&hl=en_GB. This is so that they can plan the food appropriately and they don't end up with 3000 carrot sticks!

Festivities are from 11am until about 2pm. If you're able to come early to help build the jumps and bumps, please bring along your favourite shovel. (A helpful hint is to label your shovel with your name, so you can find it at the end, as there is a lot of indiscriminate shovel sharing that happens! ;-). Please contact me directly This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you have any questions. Bearing in mind that I'm off on March Break on Sunday morning so I will NOT be responding to anything received after Saturday night.

Lastly, send your positive thoughts to those Nakkertokkers at Nationals. Go Nakk Go!

Coach Bryan

Join the Award-Winning Nakkertok CSM Team!

Anyone interested in skiing in the 2010 Canadian Ski Marathon as a Tourer is invited to join the Nakkertok Touring Team! Veterans, new skiers, everyone is welcome.

In 2008 our team came first in our category, and we were awarded the Gold RA Trophy! Last year, with a smaller team, we won the Bronze Trophy!

Who? You, your ski buddies, your family! The number of sections skied by the top 20 members of the Team are counted as our team total. So even one section skied by the youngest skier can count. Team member ages ranged from 9 to 70. We skied in family groups, with partners or solo.

When? The 2010 Marathon will be held the weekend of February 13 and 14th.

Where? The Marathon will run from Gatineau/Buckingham to Lachute, with the mid-way point in Montebello.

How far? The trail is divided into 10 sections, each between 12 and 22 km long, ranging from easy, through intermediate to difficult. You can ski from 1 to 5 consecutive sections each day. In the past, team members have skied from 3 to 7 sections over two days.

How to register? You can register online at the site: http://www.csm-mcs.com. After you enter your personal information, to join the team choose:

Class – Corporate Touring Team

Fee – will be the tourer fee and is based on age of skier

Team Name – Nakkertok

Team Captain – Rosalind Riseborough

Team Members – Your name will appear. Don’t worry about the other member names.

Go for it!

Please send me an email if you have any questions or after you register, so that I can keep track of our members!

Hans Weber

Hans Weber, a founding member of Nakkertok Ski Club, died on Monday (May 25th). Hans has been integral to the creation and development of Nakkertok. Most of the ski club trails and cabins are built on land originally owned by Hans and Meg.This land, where he lived in his beautiful log house, he openly shared with hundreds of skiers every year. Hans's enthusiasm for the outdoors is contagious and for many a member the outdoors, cross-country skiing and Nakkertok is an important part of our community and a way-of-life that we cherish.

In recent years he was out skiing regularly in the field and enjoyed the sight of Bunnyrabbits and Jackrabbits learning how to ski. Nakkertokers will dearly miss seeing Hans on the trails, but we will always feel his presence.

End-of-Season Banquet

End-of-Season Banquet at Nakkertok South on Saturday, April 25th, 6 p.m.

Now that your skis are stored away (or not?) till next season, it’s banquet time! This year again, we're staying home: our annual get-together will be at Nakkertok South. Let's celebrate the end of an EXTRAORDINARY ski season!

There will be a craft table for kids, outdoor fun, the traditional “guess the number of gummy things in the jar” contest, great stories, a slide show featuring the best – and worst – pics of the year, and our very own annual awards. Please remember that the surroundings might be muddy so bring good boots and appropriate clothing.

So that everyone can enjoy the evening, we’re going for the ever-winning pot-luck formula. We ask each family to bring a main course AND an appetizer OR dessert. Please be generous with your portions, as we seem to find that skiers have big appetites! We will provide water, juice, milk, tea and coffee, but feel free to bring your favourite beverages (wine, beer, pop, etc.).

In order to keep this event as low-impact as possible, we strongly suggest that everyone bring their own plates, cups, etc. We will have all the necessary supplies if you need them (throw-away plastic type), but if we all take care of our own dishes, we will greatly reduce the amount of garbage that we produce.

Last but not least: if you are available to give a hand at this event so it runs as smoothly as possible, please contact Andrée at 819-827-2387 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Looking forward to seeing you all on the 25th, right after the AGM and the spring clean-up!
