Club History
Nakkertok is the largest cross country ski club in the national capital region.
Our network of about 75 km of trails is located 10 minutes north of Ottawa in the Gatineau Hills.
The club was founded in 1971 by a group of families interested in cross country ski racing. Today with nearly 1,400 members, including a large number of children, the club continues to provide both a friendly family atmosphere and a high level of competitive racing.
Nakkertok South provides a lit stadium with two loops of lit trails, and network of connecting trails groomed to perfection by Dirk Van Wyk (Olympic 2010 groomer), long time coach Dave Mallory and the indispensable Marc Mineault. There is a barn in the stadium area with lighting and a woodstove for warm up and video review. The sheltered stadium is the focal point for our races, lessons, and socials (try our Facilities, Maps and Resources links at the top for more information).
Nakkertok North offers the peaceful solitude of wilderness skiing, with breathtaking hills, back country trails and ski cabins for overnight and daytime use (try our Facilities, Maps and Resources links at the top for more information).
Nakkertok Trail Number 1: Trail number 1 is a 24 km backcountry trail linking Nakkertok North and South:

Programs: These include family oriented Learn to Ski programs such as Bunny Rabbit and Jackrabbit and Challenge courses. The racing program starts with Racing Rabbits and continues through Midgets and Juniors for older children. Not to forget that skiing is for life, Nakkertok offers programs for adults: Racing Masters, Fitness and Touring Masters, Ski Lessons and Women on Skis (see Program Information links above for more information).
Races: Nakkertok hosts several races each year: the Nakkertok Juniors, a friendly race for toddlers to young adults; the Nakkertok Invitational, the Nakkerloppet, and Thea's Race, a spring fun race. Our junior racing team is second in the country.
Volunteer Spirit: Nakkertok is run on a co-operative basis by its members. Adult members are asked to spend two days per season helping with various volunteer tasks, including trail clearing, ski instruction, race organization, facility repairs and social activities. Members who do not have time to volunteer contribute a fee in lieu of their volunteer activities.
Nakkertok Executive and Coordinators
Nakkertok is run by a volunteer Board of Directors, voted in at the Annual General Meeting, with directors and co-ordinators for various areas of responsibility.
